Turn signals are generally more visible to other drivers on the road than pedestrians trying to cross. This safety concern led to Mitsubishi Electric developing a vehicle indicating system that projects a vehicle’s intended path onto the road, making its movements more obvious to everyone around.
Mitsubishi’s system projects an image onto the pavement to indicate the direction the vehicle is travelling, and if an occupant is opening a door. Any cyclist who’s ever had a collision with a car door that opened in its path should appreciate this feature. Powered by LED lights, the projectors will have a minimal affect on a car’s battery and electrical systems, and should help reduce vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian collisions, injuries, and maybe even a little road rage.
